What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar is a type of vinegar or fermented liquid made from apples that has been used since ancient times for all sorts of health benefits and practical uses. The Egyptians used it for weight loss and Hippocrates, the father of the medical profession used it in all varieties of health treatments.

How is Apple Cider Vinegar Made?

Apple Cider Vinegar is made from the cider of pressed apples that is allowed to ferment. Apple cider differs from apple juice in that apple juice is general made by filtering and cooking the liquid that is extract from the apples.  Apple cider on the other hand is just the pressed liquid from the apples that can be consumed raw or may be pasteurized first. The best apple cider to use in making apple cider vinegar is raw, unfiltered and made from organic apples. The best apple cider vinegars contain a cloudy sediment from the “mother” or base of probiotic organisms that are responsible for the fermentation of the cider.

What is in Apple Cider Vinegar that is so beneficial?

Apple cider vinegar contains Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Provitamin Beta-Carotene, Vitamin P, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Chlorine, Sodium, Sulfur, Copper, Iron, Silicon, Fluorine and Acetic Acid.  Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar also contains Pectin and Malic Acid.

What are the benefits of using Apple Cider Vinegar?

While Apple Cider Vinegar contains Acetic Acid, it actually has an alkalizing effect on the body.  Many of the health benefits from taking Apple Cider Vinegar come from this balancing of the ph in the body which in today’s world of processed foods and poor nutrition tends to be more acidic. This unbalanced acidic environment causes many health problems, such as susceptibility to yeast and bacterial overgrowth, inflammation, poor absorption of nutrients and in extreme cases even autoimmune diseases and cancer.  Acetic Acid has been shown to have antifungal and antibacterial properties that can improve skin disorders caused by fungus and bacteria.

Topical application of Apple Cider Vinegar can also assist in wound healing and when taken orally has also been shown to curb the appetite which assists with weight loss. The vitamins in Apple Cider Vinegar help to support a healthy immune system.  The minerals in Apple Cider Vinegar also help to support the body in building and repairing bones, muscles and connective tissue.  The other nutrients like Pectin and Malic Acid also assist the body to eliminate toxins and improve brain function.

Apple Cider Vinegar has recently been shown to be beneficial in regulating blood sugar levels and lower of cholesterol which can be helpful in the treatment of diabetes, heart disease and obesity.  Apple Cider Vinegar can also reduce bloating and swelling due to sodium retention and thereby help in lowering high blood pressure which is a major risk in cardiovascular disease.

The Malic Acid in unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar  is very beneficial in promoting good oral health due to its antiseptic properties and also facilitates the renewal of healthy skin due to its exfoliating properties.  Malic Acid also stimulates the metabolism, reduces muscle fatigue and joint pain, increases mental clarity and increases energy levels. Pectin in unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar is a soluble fiber which helps with proper digestion and elimination and also helps lower cholesterol.

What ailments has Apple Cider Vinegar been known to treat?

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used to treat hiccups, fatigue, indigestion, colitis, allergies, arthritis, athletes foot, headaches, eczema, dizziness, high cholesterol, heartburn, diarrhea, obesity, diabetes, scurvy, dandruff, yeast infections and as a general detoxifier.

What are the side effects of taking Apple Cider Vinegar?

While consuming or applying Apple Cider Vinegar in moderate amounts is considered very safe, higher qualities can have potential drawbacks.  Since Apple Cider Vinegar is rather tart it may not be tolerated by some sensitive individuals.  It can also irritate the skin if it is cracked or inflamed in any way.  Apple Cider Vinegar may also interact with or increase the potency of certain medications so you should always speak to your doctor about your plans before using it or any other supplements.

What are some other helpful uses of Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar can be used as a weed killer, household disinfectant, coffee maker cleaner, silver and jewelry polisher, deodorizer and cat box cleaner.

Recap of the many benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used safely for centuries for its many health properties and usefulness.  The best Apple Cider Vinegar to use is raw, unfiltered and organic.  As well as being beneficial to your health, Apple Cider Vinegar can be used in food preparation and for many other household applications.  It is inexpensive, non-toxic and environmentally friendly.  Why not try it and discover the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for yourself.

suggestions for cutting carbs for weight loss in a pesco-vegetarian diet?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

if i’m not eating meat and i’m not eating bread (and fish only a few portions per week), what will i eat?

You can definitely try vegetables, fruits, dairy and things like beans that have lot of protein. I am not sure if you eat eggs, but if you do egg whites make good breakfast. I wouldn’t recommend a complete boycott of carbohydrates as your brain and red blood cells use carbohydrate as the primary source of energy. You can try whole wheat or whole grain products to stay full longer, to get more protein and fiber. Limit the use of fat, try to ger more proteins and some carbohydrates to keep you going.

Looking for weight loss meal plans?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

has anyone seen any meal plans or ideas that promote a healthy diet but also helps control weight. It would be even better if it helps loose weight. Nothing hard core, just a easy plan I can add some exercise to and feel and look better.
The meals don’t need to be fancy, but something like a weight watchers meal. I mainly need guidance on how to balence my meal types.

Oh and the last thing is I’m looking for something free. It’s the internet and I know everything is out there for free somewhere.

4 weeks ago I started a plan that entailed the following:

Breakfast: 2/3 Cup Nonfat Yogurt with berries

Snack (between breakfast and lunch): One Triangle Laughing Cow Light Cheese and an apple.

Lunch: Chicken Breast / With Salad and veggies

Snack: Triangle LCL Cheese and 1/3 Protein Bar

Dinner: Protein based main course (Fish, Pork, Steak, chicken breast) Veggies and salad.

I cut back on Caffeine, Beer etc and drink lots of water.

Lost 18 lbs to this point.

Does Apple cider vinegar really help weight loss?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I was told by my grandmother to drink a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water 45 minutes before I eat anything? Does anyone know if it will help or harm me? Has anyone ever tried this?

Vinegar in the diet goes back well over 3000 years. The Roman army issued it to it’s troops. Egyptians also used it in their diet even before that..I don’t know what it does but I was raised half my life on a farm by an Aunt and Uncle..I have learned many things from them over the years.(Old remedies and such) My Uncle gets up every morning and and drinks a mixture of Cranberry apple juice with a tblspn of Apple cider vinegar in it…

What is the ratio of weight-loss between those who follow a vegetarian diet v.s. high protein meat diet?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Is there any data on weight-loss for people that followed a vegetarian / vegan diet, compared to those who eat lots of meat / high protein? I have heard varying reports of what is better in terms of weight loss and know most of the facts. Are there any articles / data to substantiate either argument?
I’m not looking for diet advice. I’m healthy, fit and exercise regularly. Just looking for anything that supports either argument.

There is no difference.

It is the amount you eat that is the real factor.

I am a fat vegetarian. I have a high protien diet.

good luck!
