Can people lose weight on vegetarian diet?
Sunday, January 3rd, 2010Do vegetarians make up for the meat by eating more sugar; therefore, weight loss is not the norm as what I’ve been told? I’m thinking about trying it for several reasons besides weight loss…detoxing from meat and its additives, antibiotics etc., not to be part of society’s demand on animal slaughter and general health and well being.
I would appreciate to hear from all vegetarians and the best way to go into it – slowly, eliminating red meat first etc. What, if any, de-tox symptoms could develop that would be temporary but not a bad sign.
It is possible to lose weight on a vegetarian diet, but simply going vegetarian does not mean you will automatically lose weight. When I became a vegetarian, I gained weight because I ate too many carbs…
Just make sure you are getting enough protein, but watch the carbs. A lot of vegetarian protein supplement items are high in carbs so its a bit tricky…but I did eventually end up losing weight. I like to get my protein from more naturaly souces instead of like protein bars and shakes…I just add some nuts and stuff to my salads…and have some kind of tofu or something with dinner…
