Going Vegan To Lose Weight?
How to lose weight healthily & happily:
1. Eat foods that are nutrient-dense. Eat a variety of healthful, whole foods.
2. Avoid nutrient deficient foods, like many processed foods. Avoid dangerous foods: meat, dairy and eggs.
3. Exercise regularly, preferably an hour a day.
Counting calories is a tried and true method for weight loss. But in order to stay healthy, those calories should come from healthy, whole foods. And in order for your heart and lungs to stay healthy and your body to look toned, you need to exercise, too.
I know this from experience and research. I recommend reading:
- The China Study
- The Thrive Diet
- Eat More, Weigh Less
- Fit or Fat
And no, I’m not perfect. I don’t exercise enough and I still eat too many processed foods. But I am a healthy weight and I haven’t got heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. I am a vegan.

Like you I used to …
Like you I used to “feel great” on the veggie then later vegan diet. I went vegetarian because one day I just made that connection between meat and animals and life. Later vegan because of something (non graphical) I saw on TV about a pig farm which told me no animal will be free as long as this continues. Then finally raw vegan because of both getting sick from nuts (and oats), and combinations of other things. In short both diets I was sick because I used to eat a lot of things you mentioned.

I’m glad you have …
I’m glad you have an idea of what they do to non animals as well as the vaccination fraud.
A natural food by definition, is something that is whole and unprocessed in any way. Grains and nuts fail this due to the processing they go through to make them edible and less bitter. Just imagine what a wild grain would taste like; Why do they have to be processed first? Because we cannot eat them raw or in their natural state…

Reasons meat,dairy, …
Reasons meat, dairy, eggs are “bad” for you: Vaccines….the FDA has made it LAW that all animals for food must be vaccinated. This causes change in DNA structure …and your eating vaccines…..this weakens your bodies natural defenses against even the common cold…never mind the FLU. Due Diligence is the key here.

I fail to see how …
I fail to see how natural foods are “bad” for you. Ive been on this diet for 8 months now and I feel great….I have not been sick. Mind you…I also meditate …I don’t drink or take drugs…esp PHARMA’S
I went veggie because I seen what the FDA was doing to our animals….heavily vaccinating all of them! Anyone who does their “due diligence” even poorly will see that western civilization is the most heavily vaccinated in the world.
peace and conscience love to us all~~~

I used to eat …
I used to eat peanut butter, spinach, pumpkin seeds, broccoli, cauliflower, rice and bread especially.
The nuts caused me to be sick, rice and bread bloated me. Broccoli took me a while to realize it was also causing me discomfort.
I used to eat a load of that stuff as well as other vegan labeled things, they are not really good for you. I only realized this after much thought and practice as well as going fully raw.

I am 57 years old …
I am 57 years old and have been vegan for 10 years and was vegetarian for about 5 years before that. My reasons for going veg*n was the whole animal cruelty thing. Hubby is also vegan for almost as long as I have been. We both love our food and since being vegan have actually gained a little weight but that is because potato chips and fries are some of our favorite foods. Aside from that though we are very healthy eaters, eating lots of fresh organic fruits and veggies.

Nevertheless I want …
Nevertheless I want to add, that this is an insightful book for vegans and vegetarians or people who pursue a vegetarian/vegan agenda. So despite keeping in mind that the author is being biased, it is still a useful read.
February 2nd, 2010 at 7:19 pm
kangarooelaine, I …
kangarooelaine, I disagree with you on the bias thing, for even sociologists teach that they have their own agenda, despite taking into account many different factors.
If someone says: “I am unbiased” he/she is still biased towards picking a favourite vantage point, or a favourite strategy.
In the book of Campbell, according to Masterjohn, Campbell ignored the wheat gluten problem with plants (plant-product) causing diseases, enabling himself to emphasize the problem with milk (animal-product.
