MrJeffinDC,
Be …
MrJeffinDC,
Be that as it may, today’s green movement seems to have more to do with pushing products and a particular social agenda than environmental impact. The fool social engineers responsible for MTBE in our water & mercury laden compact fluorescent lightbulbs in our trash have done more damage than ever will be made up for in efficiency.

Glad that you …
Glad that you brought this up, because you make a good point here!
We should definitely be factoring in what we are doing with our old appliances/hardware when they are replaced by more energy/water efficient ones.
A good way to balance this out would be to wait until, say, an inefficient fridge is broken and can’t be repaired. Then at that time you could replace it w/ a more efficient one.
And at that time, there are recycling facilities that accept Non-Reusable Large Appliances

You may be suprised …
You may be suprised but some people view today’s green movement as a way for arrogant wasteful people to feel superior while landfilling property they could repair. You can buy new, throw out the old & get a tax credit paid for by the poor slob next door whose bathroom didn’t go in the landfill. You can really pat yourself on the back if you landfill a whole house because the new one is so green. You get tax credits & get the look down your nose while buying the most expensive of everything.

You might be …
You might be surprised, but putting water-saving fixtures in a bathroom does make a significant environmental impact, given how much water you end up saving.
