How can I convince someone to live "green" or environmentally friendly?
Does anyone have any sources on why someone should go green?
This is for a research paper, I am having difficulties getting sources
Unfortunately, bring up saving money and lots of people will jump on that. So I would look for sources (try Readers Digest, Good Housekeeping, and other magazines for articles. Or pull up a local area paper and search for articles) that site money savings per household. Sadly not too many people care that it will save aspect of our world, but if it saves them money…then they are there. Maybe take it upon yourself to get them a blue recycling bin from the local recycling center (that can be part of why they don’t do it, just never got the bin). Talk about how infrequently you have to change a eco-lightbulb (that is a hassle that they can be saved). But be realistic. Not everyone is up on the ‘going green’ idea and if they are really resistant, you are wasting your breath and making a nag of yourself. It will not be appreciated or well recieved. In that case, you may have to face that you are not responsible for converting another and you have done what you could.

The only reason people will change is that it cost less or is more profitable.
As energy costs sprial out of control if you can save more money using an eco-energy, eco friendly products they WILL use it.
And that will happen but just to do it becasue it is "green" is not reason enough. People in my industry claim all kinds of "green" products and most of it is greenwashing.
Just buying a product becasue you say so doesn’t necessarly make that true. The masses will never embrace green products until they cost less or are more profitable to produce and sell than current goods and services.
And the person who suggested watching "Inconvient Truth" is not very smart……
And the tipping factor for any movement is economic. Period.

The environment is what allows us to live so convincing people of the importance of breathing so catch their attention.
Do you enjoy drinking water and would like your children as well as their children to have water to drink? If we don’t live within this environment instead of imposing on it, we will perish as a species.
Go to http://www.thermoguy.com and scroll down to the picture of the fetus. Click on the study of polluted newborns and ask yourself "How does a brand new baby that has never taken a breath get banned pesticides inside them?"
Look at your sisters, brothers, babies, grandbabies and all the animals of the earth. If we don’t do our job now, they will suffer for what we didn’t do.

First off, guilt is a bad motivator.
Environmental issues can get very emotional because there seems to be a conflict between feeling good and doing good. People want to feel good. Want to eat comfort foods, want to drive whatever car, want to consume whatever product – so long as it makes me feel good.
Living in environmentally responsible ways means being a lot more conscious about what things and how much of those things I consume. It means not just acting on what feels good, but also what will be good for the whole earth.
The trick (and this is tough), is to make people FEEL GOOD about DOING GOOD. When people associate good feelings (sense of pride about making a positive impact) with good actions (living green), they will be much more likely to continue doing good.
On the other hand, if people act only out of guilt, their good deeds will be short lived. Guilt has a short lifespan.

Don’t force your opinions on others. All you can do is present facts. Let them make up their own mind.
