Being eco friendly or living in an environmentally friendly way can be confusing with mixed messages coming from different sources. While being green is all about thinking and assessing how individually we effect the environment, what often works for one person doesnt necessarily work, or can be practical, to another. However, there are a few things that many people agree can go a long way to helping the environment and most people can fit into their lives.

Reducing, Reusing and Recycling are perhaps the most important things that we can do that directly help the environment. When you consider how much waste each of us throw away each year it soon becomes clear that reducing that amount will make an individual difference. Buy organic products where no harmful chemicals/pesticides have been used. While it may be a bit more expensive, the cost pays off to help prevent air, water and soil pollution for the benefit of generations to come. Its not just about organic food either, organic clothing and other organic products need to be considere. Try and use natural alternatives. Less is more. Simple things that each of us can do to improve the condition of the environment and reduce the amounts of wasted energy and products.

i am trying to live an eco friendly life, my peers think im mad, am i fighting a loosing battle?

January 8, 2010 - 9:03 am 3 Comments

i am especially interested in sustainable fashion, so to start i no longer shop in places like h&m and primark and try to buy less but good quality clothes..this is not a popular choice!

I don’t really want to agree with the top poster, but he’s sort of right in a way.

Eco-friendly is just to show that you’re not hypocritical if you claim you love the environment

However in reality, convincing the local government or a large corporation to implement the TINIEST eco-improvement behavior would be countless times more effective. The corporation I worked with probably throws out more trash in one hour, then you will in your lifetime. Now imagine if you had them enact something more significant – what kind of impact that would be

To do this, you have to be active in well…activism and that kind of stuff.

Would you want to live in an eco-friendly subdivision?

January 5, 2010 - 11:07 am 1 Comment

Would you pay more for houses that are eco-friendly, energy and water efficient and made of natural or recycled materials?

Yes I would like to live in an echo friendly subdivision, provided the cost difference is not prohibitive-10% extra cost for a house max.

Eco Living is Good for Us and Our Environment

August 13, 2009 - 8:19 pm No Comments
Green_livingToday more than ever people are interested in Eco Living.  There is a growing awareness that our home, the earth, is to be respected and cared for by her human inhabitants.  People everywhere are looking for better ways to live that will protect our environment.  More and more people want to make sure that they are being good stewards and want to leave the earth a little better place to live than they found it.

There are some main themes that we can all remember that will help to make this happen.  We can use less non-renewable sources of energy and look for better ways to meet our energy needs.  Next we want to ensure that everyone has clean drinking water and that we don’t waste this life giving resource.  We can cut down on waste and help reduce the toxic load on our environment by choosing non-polluting alternatives to chemicals and substances that we use in our daily lives.

There are little things we can do every day that can positively impact on our environment.  From turning the lights off when you leave a room to not letting the water run while you are brushing your teeth, all these things add up.  You can help reduce the amount of trash that goes into landfills by making sure you recycle and reuse or donate items that can still be useful.  You can also protect the environment in your homes as well the rest of the planet by using eco-friendly cleaning supplies.

You can also protect your own body by making better food choices to include more organic produce in your diet and be sure to use a reuseable bag when shopping to cut down on waste from plastic bags.  Living green is good for you and your environment.

Most of the changes you make can also make a positive difference in your bank account as well.  Many environment saving efforts also help you save money too.  Natural products can be healthier and less expensive if not always in the short term, definitely in the long run.

When we eliminate waste, save energy and make healthier choices for our bodies, homes and planet we are sure to create a better world for those we share the earth with and those who come after us.  This is the essence of eco living.
